Transported cargo insurance is a policy designed to protect goods or items being transported by land, sea, air, or rail against specific risks. This policy covers potential damages, losses, or thefts that may occur during transportation, whether for domestic shipments (within the same country) or international shipments (from one country to another).

All processes related to transportation involve the possibility of material damages: deterioration, destruction, or loss of cargo under various circumstances.
To protect property interests from unforeseen situations (during transportation), the cargo owner can contract insurance services offered by our company.
The insured object can be any type of cargo transported to any corner of the world.

  • Contract valid for a single cargo. Applied in cases of occasional transportation and various types of cargo.
  • General Cargo Insurance Contract. Suitable for regular transportation of a specific type of cargo. Entering into a General Contract simplifies the process formally, and the insurance coverage will be valid for all shipments made during the contract's validity period. This type of insurance offers different options for premium payment.

Insurance rates for transported cargo

The insurance rate for transported cargo depends on the specifics of the transportation: the set of risks, type of cargo and packaging, transportation route, cargo value, deductible amount, cargo escort with security, and other factors.

Required actions in case of an insured event

  • Take rational and accessible actions under the circumstances to minimize potential damage.
  • Immediately report the occurrence of the insured event to the competent authorities.
  • Promptly, by any means (and in writing within 2 days of discovering the damage), notify the Insurer and provide all objective information currently available regarding the circumstances of the insured event and the damage caused (documents regarding the circumstances of the insured event and the incurred damage).
  • Do not undertake unloading activities until the arrival of the insurer's representatives.
  • In the case of rail transportation, draft a report with the representative of the railways.
  • Submit a claim to the carrier in a timely manner after receiving the cargo. If the recipient does not submit such a claim, it is considered that the cargo has been received without damage, in accordance with the transportation contract.
 

Documents required for receiving insurance compensation:

  • To justify the insurable interest regarding the insured cargo: transportation documents, bills of lading, invoices.
  • To justify the occurrence of the insured event: maritime protest, documents from the Register, an excerpt from the ship's log, damage certificate, and other documents confirming the insured event. In the case of the disappearance of the cargo and the transport vehicle, verifiable information about the vehicle's departure from the point of origin and its destination within the timeframe in which the transport vehicle may be considered lost. In cases of destruction or damage to the goods, documents in accordance with the laws of the country where the insured event occurred.
  • To justify the extent of the damage: cargo inspection reports, expert opinions, expert assessment acts, and other similar documents drawn up in accordance with the laws of the place where the damage is assessed. Documents confirming expenses incurred for saving the cargo, general average statement (if claiming compensation for damages, expenses, and payments related to general average), as well as other documents required by the Insurer to resolve the issue of the amount of damage caused.
The list of required documents depends on the category of insured goods and the causes that led to their damage or destruction.

Measures to be taken in case of an insured event

Property of individuals, property of legal entities, construction and assembly works.

  • Urgently (if possible) take the necessary measures to eliminate the accident and reduce the extent of the damage.
  • Contact specialized services: firefighters, emergency services, police, etc.
  1. In case of fire – call the fire department.
  2. In case of flooding – call representatives of communal associations, landlords, or owners of adjacent properties.
  3. In case of theft – contact the police.
  4. In case of natural disasters, transport accidents, or the fall of piloted aircraft – notify the State Hydrometeorological Service and Environmental Monitoring, as well as the Civil Protection and Emergency Situations Service.
  5. Draft an act identifying the responsible parties, if any.
  • Immediately, within 48 (forty-eight) hours, notify the insurer in writing, by letter, or by email, about the occurrence of the insured event. It is also necessary to report: the insurance policy number; the correct date and time of the incident; the circumstances and causes that led to the damage; measures taken to mitigate the damage; the condition of the damaged (destroyed) property; the name and contact details of the person reporting the incident.
  • Without delay, submit to the insurance company, in writing, a list of damaged property, the conditions of the incident, and the nature of the damage.
  • Together with the insurance company's representative, compile a written list of damaged property.
  • Submit the necessary documents for compensation payment to the insurance company.

List of documents required to confirm the occurrence of the insured event and determine the amount of damage:

  • Original insurance contract.
  • Statement of the insured event and application for insurance compensation.
  • Extracts, receipts, and other primary documents related to the insured property, confirming expenses incurred for the repair and restoration of damaged property.
  • In case of fire or explosion – a certificate from the fire service indicating the causes and conditions of the fire.
  • In case of natural disasters – a certificate from the State Meteorological and Seismological Service or other competent authorities depending on the nature of the insured event.
  • In case of flooding – a certificate from housing and communal institutions indicating the causes and circumstances of the insured event.
  • In case of theft – a certificate from the police regarding the initiation of a criminal case.
  • Other documents requested by the insurer related to the insured event.
  • For legal entities: accounting documents, extracts from inventory registers, invoices, receipts, warehouse records, etc., and certificates of asset depreciation as of the date of the insured event (calculated by the policyholder's accounting department in case of insurance based on book value).
The list of documents depends on the category of the insured property (buildings, equipment, furniture, etc.) and also on the cause of damage or destruction (fire, natural phenomena, illegal actions by third parties, etc.).

Insured Risks

The cargo can be insured under the following risk packages:
  • "With responsibility for all risks": includes a full package of risks – coverage includes the transportation process, temporary storage of cargo (warehouse, terminal, exhibition, etc.), and the loading and unloading processes.
  • "With limited responsibility": the possibility to select specific necessary risks.

The insured amount is determined by mutual agreement with the Insured but will not exceed the real value derived from the contractual value, including transport costs, customs duties, and other necessary expenses, or without including these expenses.
